The winners of this years student prize have been announced. Entries came from nine countries, and, whilst predominantly in the medium glass, included ceramics, bronze, and mixed media.
1st Prize of a 2017 Bild-Werk Frauenau Summer Academy course of her choice was awarded to Maarja Mäemets (Estonian Academy of Arts) for her piece “Underwater love”, a blown glass work which she then photographed underwater; a work which showed originality, developed thinking and an impressive presentation. 2nd Prize of 200€ towards a 2017 Bild-Werk Frauenau Summer Academy course was awarded to Merel Cremers (LUCA School of Arts, Gent, Belgium) for her piece “Tableset (2015)”. This is an impressive ceramic installation which dissects a daily part of life from cooking practices to the culture of eating. 3rd Prize of a 2017 Bild-Werk Frauenau Weekend course was awarded to Rait Lõhmus from the Estonian Academy of Arts for his piece “Land of mess”, a kiln cast work in black glass. Special Commendation goes to Filip Turek (SUPŠ a VOŠ) for his bronze piece "Figura". Congratulations! The official prize giving ceremony, together with presentations by the prize winners showing their work and the school which they studied in, will take place during the summer depending upon which academy session they select. The competition will be repeated again in 2019. Jury: Mark Angus (GB), Anne Petters (D), Heinz Fischer (D), Michal Poustka (CZ)
