INFORMATION ON ACADEMY ORGANISATION
When does the International Summer Academy take place?
The International Summer Academy takes place annually, consisting of four course blocks with 5 to 10 courses running simultaneously. The dates for 2025 are:
When does my course begin and end?
The first day begins at 10:00 a.m. with a welcome and introduction to the academy schedule for all instructors, participants, and helpers. Afterward, the courses start in their respective workshops.
The last day concludes with a final exhibition, which closes at 5:00 p.m.
What happens if the course is canceled or I am unable to attend?
We strongly recommend taking out travel cancellation insurance for both your accommodation and the course. Please note that courses may be canceled under certain circumstances (see Terms and Conditions).
If you need to cancel your participation due to illness or other reasons, we regret that the deposit paid cannot be refunded.
What are the daily course hours?
During the course periods, the workshops are open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Course hours are determined in consultation with the instructors. Courses typically begin between 9:00 and 10:00 a.m. and end between 5:00 and 6:00 p.m.
For 14-day courses, no supervision is provided on the second weekend, and for 17-day courses, supervision is unavailable on both weekends. Some courses require scheduling in specific working phases due to technical reasons.
Special Notes for Hot Glass Courses
Hot glass courses offer a comprehensive program, including demonstrations, well-equipped workspaces, and additional activities. Participants can practice at the glassblowing pipe under the guidance of instructors and assistants, while assisting each other.
Important:
What language is the academy conducted in?
The academy is conducted in both German and English, whenever possible. Many English-speaking courses have German-speaking assistants, or multilingual participants help bridge any communication gaps. A suitable way to communicate is always found.
What additional programs are offered?
In addition to the courses, a variety of supplementary programs are available, such as evening lectures, life drawing, and other cross-course activities. Socializing—be it through shared meals, music-making, or other events—is a key part of the Bild-Werk experience.
Can I bring visitors to the academy?
Visitors are warmly invited to attend the Open Day on the second Saturday in July. For longer visits on other days, please register in advance with the office.
