Czech German Scholarship Project
Since 1990, and commencing with a cooperation with the Glass School Železný Brod, Bild-Werk Frauenau has offered scholarships for German and Czech glass school students and art students in its International Summer Academy. Since 2017, in cooperation with the Glass School in Nový Bor as a Czech project partner, an extended German-Czech workshop and scholarship program on the subject of "Glass as a medium for German-Czech relations" has been developed.
In July and August 2017, a total of 16 students took part in artistic workshops in which they dealt with the theme of "border". The results were presented in a collaborative presentation to the full academy at the end of each course block. Further insights into the project 2017 can be found here and here. Since then, the project has been successively expanded to include new cooperation partners: in 2022, 20 scholarship holders from 7 Czech and 6 German schools and universities are already taking part in the project.

The work in the student workshops runs parallel to the participation of all scholarship students in a selected course of the International Summer Academy for Glass and Visual Arts. In addition to these subject-specific courses, the scholarship recipients thus have the opportunity of an experimental, artistic exchange between the disciplines and workshops, and the cross-border and international networking, all of benefit to their future spheres of activity.
The project, funded by the German-Czech Future Fund as well as the Community of Frauenau, enables German and Czech scholars to experience the traditional and present-day potential of glass as an art and craft medium that has evolved over hundreds of years in European, and especially Czech-German, exchange. The project partners in Frauenau and Nový Bor intend to develop the positive experiences of the project towards further workshop and scholarship programs of the coming years.
