Assisting at Bild-Werk
Teaching Assistants (TAs) take a vital part in Bild-Werks academy. They bring a dynamic, creative energy to the academy and take on an important role in supporting teachers and students. Each year Bild-Werk offers teaching assistant positions in wood sculpture, ceramics, glass blowing, kiln casting, glass painting, pate de verre and other specialised glass techniques and creative disciplines if enrolments reach a certain number.
TAs are early career emerging artists specialising in the field of the course or studio they apply for, with the ambition to pursue a professional artistic career and with an interest in teaching. A TA appointment will give insight into professional teaching methods in the creative field and help build a network with other artists and creative professionals. TAs are required to work side by side their teacher and to respond to individual needs of the participants in an inclusive respectful manner.
Teachers should discuss their class goals with their TA before the beginning of the course and TAs are required to support the teacher in their vision.
The role of Assistants in different studios can vary and teachers and TAs are in close communication with each other and the academy staff to prevent misunderstandings, solve problems early on and to help create a joyful and safe work environment for everyone.
Assistantships at Bild-Werk are unpaid positions without travel cost cover.
However, the school provides free accommodation for the duration of the course and a small stipend towards food expenses. TAs will have the opportunity to work on their own projects in the frame and possibilities of the course and in agreement with their teacher.
To apply please send the following materials to [email protected]
The selection of teaching assistants is made by Bild-Werk in respect to teacher’s recommendations and needs. TAs will be notified by Bild-Werk once enrolment numbers allow. In Some courses this might be as late as 2 months before the start of the course.
Applications can be made all year through, although we recommend to apply after the course program goes online each year in December.
To guarantee a diverse academy and to offer as many emerging artists the opportunity to assist at Bild-Werk, TAs can only be appointed a maximum of three times.
Bild-Werk is committed to respecting and supporting our TAs. Many assistants have returned and often become teachers themselves.
