Yesterday, June 10th, 2022, on a bright spring day, Gretel Eisch fell asleep forever.
Gretel Eisch (nee Stadler) was an artist and sculptor with body and soul, but her great love was also nature. She was born on February 15, 1937 in Munich and grew up on Lake Ammersee in Upper Bavaria, the daughter of the gardener Karl Stadler and the artisan Else Stadler. In 1956 she went to the Munich Art Academy as a student of sculpture, working in stone and bronze, wood and print. With idealism and creative verve she engaged in the art movements of that time, in the Situationist International, the artist group SPUR, and especially her own artist group RADAMA with Erwin Eisch and Max Strack.

If you are convinced that we are on the right track with GLASS WORKS as well, please support our campaign! You can support us by simply donating money, getting some nice gifts in exchange for your donation or by sharing the information about the campaign with all the people you know. Go to https://www.startnext.com/en/glass-works to get more information and to support GLASS WORKS!

ith the death of Erwin Eisch Bild-Werk Frauenau has lost its founder, mentor and inexhaustible source of inspiration and encouragement. Accompanied by his family, he passed away on January 25th, 2022 at the age of 94 years.
Erwin Eisch was born on April 18, 1927, the son of Valentin Eisch, glass engraver in the crystal glass factory Isidor Gistl in Frauenau, and the woodcutter's daughter Therese Hirtreiter. He was deeply influenced by his growing up in a working class environment that was conscious of craftsmanship and art, and from which he drew his spirit of contradiction, his humour and his musicality.

Alexander Tutsek-Stiftung awards scholarships for emerging artists
In 2022, the Alexander Tutsek-Stiftung awards up to ten scholarships for participation in a workshop at the International Summer Academy Bild-Werk Frauenau. With the scholarships the foundation aims to support emerging artists who work with the medium glass, and to make it easier for them to start their careers. The workshops enable the scholarship holders to expand their professional knowledge and develop their artistic skills through encounters and intensive exchange. The scholarship enables the artists to experiment and to implement their own designs and concepts with the material glass.
The scholarships, endowed with 2,000 euros, are awarded to artists who, at the time of their application, have graduated from an art academy or completed their artistic training at a glass college or university of applied sciences within the last five years. For more information, please visit the website of the Alexander Tutsek-Stiftung:
www.atutsek-stiftung.de

About the Alexander Tutsek-Stiftung

The glass scene has lost its communicative heart

Bild-Werk Frauenau mourns the loss of Sissi Zizlsperger
Bild-Werk Frauenau mourns the loss of a person whose passion was glass: Sissi Zizlsperger, a long-time board member and leader of the "Galerie am Museum", died on March 31, 2020 at the age of only 64. She fought cancer with her own optimism, but ultimately she lost her battle. It is particularly sad that Sissi's death came at a time of social isolation due to the Corona crisis. Contacts with other people were always vital to her. With her passing, the glass scene in the Bavarian Forest and the international scene have lost their communicative heart.
Sissi Zizlsperger was a gifted networker. She knew how to bring people together, - young, unknown artists as well as established artists from the region and around the world. Her enthusiasm for glass and the people who made it in a variety of ways was inspiring. She created opportunities for exhibitions and encounters and, with her warmth and hospitality, made the guests feel welcome.
Sissi Zizlsperger came to Bild-Werk in 2005 as an intern. From the same year she was appointed to the “Eisch-Atelier” and the artist-in-residence program, which brought international artists to Frauenau to work creatively with the glassmakers from the Eisch glassworks. Before that she had worked in the Glass Museum in Passau, where the entrepreneur Georg Höltl had installed the world's largest collection of Bohemian glass. During this time, Sissi developed a love for this fascinating material. Then, in Frauenau, she entered a particularly creative glass environment, where the new Frauenau Glass Museum had just opened. In Tom's Hall, on the site of the former glass king Isidor Gistl, Bild-Werk Frauenau had established itself from 1987 as a non-profit educational institution and cultural initiative that was developed from impulses by Erwin Eisch, and from the connections of the regional glass scene to the International Studio Glass Movement. Participants from all over the world came to the courses at the Summer Academies, and Sissi Zizlsperger was open to everyone. She engaged in the Board of Directors of Bild-Werk Frauenau (from 2008 to 2011 as the chairwoman) and brought in her ideas and put many suggestions into practice. The summer academy and the "Gallery at the Museum" complemented each other perfectly. The traveling exhibition "50 Artists - 50 Vases", which she co-organized, is still seen as one of the most creative actions to this day.
Sissi will be remembered by all of us within Bild-Werk with her zest for action, her community spirit and her always interested and excited manner. We would love to be there when the many friends she has in Frauenau and far beyond hold her in memory with a big party in better times to come: Sissi Zizlsperger, the fighter with a big heart for people and for glass.

Summer academy 2020 facing the corona virus

15/3/2020

Dear friends of Bild-Werk!

the uncertainties due the coronavirus COVID19 and the consequences , which are at this point not fully predictably, are very concerning for us as the Bild-Werk Team.
Right now, we primarily think about the spring academy.

We are most concerned about the well-being of our staff and future teachers and students.
Nonetheless, we have decided to not cancel the spring nor summer academies.
We are watching the events as they develop very carefully and will do everything we can to asses the situation objectively and professionally.

We ask you in this time of uncertainty to think of the beauty and importance of Bild-Werk and other such places for so many creative people world-wide. Our wish and hope for this year´s academy is to continue being the vibrant and inspirational place for artist from all over the world to connect and create. We very much are looking forward to welcoming international teachers and students.

We stay positive that at the time of the spring academy the most severe effects of the virus will be overcome and travel will be possible without restrictions.

We are hopeful and will inform you immediately about any changes in the academy program.

Wholeheartedly, we wish you all the best and stay healthy!

The team of Bild-Werk
